This is actually the tail end of a double stack train that was being pulled eastward by CP 8866. I was in my kayak (on Nugget Creek, Wabigoon Ontario) when I took this photo.

I knew there would be another locomotive at the end of this train so I got closer to the tracks to capture the tail end. What really caught my eye was the smooth surface of the water - I had hopes in getting a nice reflection of the train.

Photo is not as sharp as I would have liked.

Derek Kennedy > CP 9110, a GMD SD90MAC sits in the Dryden yard with a SD-40-2 (CP 5976) trailing. These units where the power of a (rail) work train.

Using the live view function of the Canon 40D, I had to hold the camera over my head to shoot between two strands of barbed wire on top of a fence to get this shot. I couldn't get too much of the second unit as there was a tree in the way - as evident of a dark shadow above the second unit.

Derek Kennedy > Normally I wouldn't post, or photograph, a train with all those distractions in the shot but I kind of had no choice.

I was heading over to this location as I heard a east bound train coming. I parked my Jeep and started heading towards a good spot (to the right of the cameras position in this photo), when I heard a westbound coming.

I didn't have enough time to get to where I needed to get a photo of the west bound train without anything in the way - like the speed limit/mileage sign.

I was unable to get a shot of the east bound train as this one was in the in the way.

The location of this photo is mileage 64 of the Ignace subdivision. This crossing is just west of the Dryden Domtar mill.

Derek Kennedy > CP 8794 East was traveling around 10-15 mph when I took this photo. In another couple hundred yards they stopped so the crew could run for a coffee.

I'm assuming there was some sort of blockage up the track as the RTC (Rail Traffic Control) told them to stop for a coffee.

I've never taken a photo from this location before so I was interested as to how things would look. I think there are a few too many distracting elements in the area, such as the fence. To the left of the photo is the Domtar mill (Dryden).

Photo is a little grainy as I took the photo at 6:47am on a overcast morning. The light levels where not very good so I had to bump up the iso to 1600 to get the shutter speed I prefer to shoot at.

Derek Kennedy > This second photo of a CP work train (CP 9123, a GMD SD90MAC) was taken just a few seconds after the previous photo but I removed a power pole and power lines. I also removed the orange sign indicating buried cable as those things just annoy me when seeing them in a photo.

This locomotive has 6000 hp. The original order was for 20 locomotives but the order was reduced to 4 (unit numbers 9300, 9301, 9302 and 9303). UPDATE: CP 9300-9303 officially retired 2008-11-20.
