Read MoreAug. 29th/06 Today John announced to me that it was the first day of school *again*. I said that it was the second day of school and he said it was the first second day of school. We had a meeting with Ms. Fenton, John's JK teacher. He was quite shy about the meeting and didn't really want to answer the questions she asked him, however, would answer if I asked the questions. He then took Ms. Fenton upstairs to the Best Start Room and showed her the planets he had made out of paper. Glenda, his best start teacher had helped him make a sun and stars to go with his solar system. Our baby is growing up *sniff*. Aug. 28/06 Today was John's first day at Best Start. He said it was his first day of school *close enough*. He had a good day overall except when they went to McDonald's and he had vegetables on his hamburger. He was very cute this morning, but didn't want to pose for pictures. As we were walking to school, he says to me, "I'm too little to go to school Mommy. I'm only 3 years old you know." Tomorrow we have a meeting with Miss Fenton, his JK teacher. He now thinks that any woman with long hair is Miss Fenton. It's very nice having him in the school. I enjoyed popping in on him and seeing how his day was going. BTW John is mad that the stronomers have decided Pluto is not a planet. Aug.19/06 Today was a trying day! John just had a rough time all day long. He started off being mean to the cat and Derek and I laid down the law. He didn't get to go to the toy library because of this. While I was cooking the chili for supper, he broke the blinds in the living room (I repaired them). Then I took him to work with me for a bit and he pulled the arm on the emergency eye wash device (costs 160 bux). I called the vice principal, had him apologize on the phone and also took an apology letter to his house. He's sleeping in his own bed tonight as well. Working on establishing a better bedtime routine! John had his check-up this week and he did well with it. I was surprised that he didn't freak out! He was thinking about freaking out momentarily, but calmed down enough for Dr. Mazurski to have a decent look at him. Next month is the teeth! Aug. 9/06
John had a "field trip" with Uncle Wade today (that's what John called it)...from the Magic School Bus. They were supposed to go mini-golfing, however it was closed so Wade took him to the big golf course. They hit a few balls on the driving range and then went and threw rocks at Flat Rock. They topped it off with a lunch at McDonald's. John said it was the "best day ever" and wants to do it every Wednesday. Summer is rapidly coming to a close. I have to go back to work in two weeks (to get my stuff ready). they're not sure if the Best Start room will be done in time, so John might have to put in a bit of time at the daycare centre until it is ready. Aug. 2/06 Summer is flying by! I can't believe that I have to go back to work in 3 weeks! They're busy getting the Best Start room ready, but I'm having a hard time believing it will be ready in time. Have just been doing summer things...lots of swimming, park, toy library and the like. They finally got the new playground equipment up and ready at Kinsman Park, however, every child in town seems to be busy on it lately. John is becoming much more confident in the water. He just has his life jacket now, instead of life jacket and water wings and he sometimes likes to put his head under the water. Last week we had a beach day at Jackie's house and that was lots of fun. She had lots of people and kids over and John had a blast playing with the kids! That's the only downfall of being an only child - no kids to play with at your house. He's decided he likes "The Wizard of Oz"..yes the old one with Judy Garland, however, he's afraid of the witch and the lion. He wants to watch it, however, you must be with him. I can't believe our baby starts school this year. His behaviour has improved immensely over the summer and I hope it continues in the fall through school and Best Start. We've been very strict with him and it's paying off. He's much less whiney and can amuse himself much easier. July 12/06 John has tonsillitis. He woke up yesterday with a big fever and was extremely lethargic all day. I finally took him to the ER as I was starting to worry. He freaked out for the nurse, but calmed down when daddy came and was actually quite good for Dr. Cortens. We've been swimming a lot at the Best Western Pool. It's hotter than Hades outside and the park equipment is being ripped down and replaced with new stuff. So, since I'm trying to lose weight and get in shape, I bought a membership to the Best Western Health Club. I go at night and do about 45 mins of cardio (treadmill and swimming). John's been enjoying being home for the summer holidays. When I suggest him going to daycare for a day, he says "no daycare." On the weekend we went to the teddy bear picnic at Pronger Park and he enjoyed that! Mommy had to ride with him on the old fashioned fire truck however. We went to Blue Lake with gramma last week and that was fun as well. He's bugging me to go mini golfing, so I guess I'll have to cave in and do that soon. We have a date of Sept. 22 for his dental work under general anesthesia. Not looking forward to this, however, it's necessary. They'll do everything with him sedated, including a fluoride tx. © 2006 Derek Kennedy
