Read MoreOct. 29/06 Almost Halloween! John is totally looking forward to trick or treating this year. He's going as all about music. I made him a cape with instruments on it and painted the names of the instruments on a zorro hat. He's not leaving this obsession easily. He says when he's 39 (my age), he's going to the big music centre in Winnipeg and buying one of each kind of instrument. He says he won't need his toy room because he's a man and he will have a music room instead! For Christmas he wants a piccolo and a mandolin. I told him Santa couldn't afford it! He had a bout of bronchitis and tonsillitis a couple of weeks back. We had to take him to the ER where the doctor gagged him with the tongue depresser. He took biaxin for a week and seems to be better. He passed the cold onto mom and dad instead. We have another date with Mr. Nerino tomorrow to see the new guitars in the music room. It's so cute. When he sees Mike at school, he almost starts to shake...taps me and says, "There he is mom! There he is!" Too shy to actually talk to him though. October 17/06 Music, music, music! That's John's latest obsession! It all started with him wanting me to draw pictures of certain musical instruments..well...I can't draw! So I offered to take him to school to make some photocopies of some musical instrument flashcards that I had. He had me cut them out and write the names on the backs of them. Then we had to find out everything there was to know about each type of instrument and find tracks to listen to on the internet. He honestly knows the names of each and every instrument that I found a picture of. Everyday we have to pick out our favourite ones and he sorts them and organizes them according to family. Brass, woodwind, percussion, single and double reeds. I'm not kidding. I'm honestly learning more about instruments than I ever knew or wanted to know before. I made an appointment with the music teacher, Mr. Nerino, to go and see the school's collection of instruments. John thought he had died and gone to heaven. He bugs me each and every day to ask Mr. Nerino if we can come back and see the instruments and touch them. He lugs his little pictures of the instruments to school every day and he bores the other children silly talking about them, I'm sure! For Halloween he's going as a music man! Suitable costume eh? I took a zorro hat and put puffy paint all over it with the instrument names. Then we coloured a bunch of instruments and glue-gunned them to a cape. We've all been through the stomach flu now, with me having it on the weekend. Hopefully that will be it for a while. Thought John had something today at best start, but he was just gagging at the lunch of green noodles hehe. Even now thinking about it, he can make himself gag! Poor kiddo! I ended up taking him out and feeding him something from our classroom snack box. Oct. 7/06 Today was John's fourth birthday party. He had a party at home with 9 kids altogether: Brooke, Joshua, Lhea, Alex, Brody, Jacob, Gabrielle, Aidan and of course John. The weather truly cooperated again this year and the kids had a lot of fun playing with the various toys that we put outside. We had a car station, blocks, balls, sandbox, the slide and a mini pumpkin craft. This year we had decorate your own cupcakes with different icings etc. The kids all seemed to enjoy it! John had a pretty good day, but did become overwhelmed a few times and cried. He was absolutely exhausted tonight and wanted to go right to bed. John got too many gifts and especially liked his new pots and pans set from Meahghan and Holden. They stopped by but had company and couldn't stay for the party. The adults all enjoyed eating meat and cheese and Lynn's dip, chased down with a few Corona :) At JK on Friday, Ms Fenton was absent, so John didn't talk much about what he did to celebrate in class. He did come home with a special glitter crown made by Ms.F and the class enjoyed eating the rice krispie squares we made. It was rather cute. When I was talking to John about turning four, he asked me "Will my voice sound different Mommy?" Dad took tons of pictures of the event as he was off this year. © 2006 Derek Kennedy
