Read MoreSept. 24/06 The dentist trip is finished. We had a relatively good ride to winnipeg, but John was afraid of the play equipment in Kenora once again. He watched Charlie and Lola movie all the way to Kenora and then a Caillou flick to Winnipeg. Derek and I heard him say we're in Manitoba over 100 times at least. The Holiday Inn Airport is a very nice facility for families. John grabbed a chocolate chip cookie on the way in and enjoyed many hours playing in the Pirate Ball Pit. They have lots of foam balls and then different levels of equipment. They have guns that fire the balls and then machines that suck up and spit out the balls. The pool had a frog slide and there was also a creative centre, ping pong table, fuzz ball table and wading pool. The dentist visit was pretty much what we expected. We reported to day surgery where John did not want to put on the hospital PJ's. He had fun playing with the toy violin in the playroom and then this scary guy came to take us down to the OR floor. He played a little more in the playroom on that floor and then they took him to dope him up with some medalozem. He got quite giggly and hard to hold. He fought and cried when they put him on the OR stretcher, but I managed not to cry. Derek and I waited upstairs for the whole thing to be done. There was an unruly kid who screamed bloody murder when the dentist came up to talk to us. John had six fillings and one crown. Dr.Dobbs said that they were small spots mostly and that the spin brush was working well. He didn't think John's teeth would be particulary prone to cavities. When the recovery room called, we went down, however, only one of us was allowed to go in at a time. John was very agitated, confused and kept saying he wanted to go to Winnipeg (the hotel) and play in the ball pit. He finally calmed down. He was very congested and when we got upstairs I gave him a dose of benadryl which dried him up some. He ate five popsicles and a glass of juice and then we got to go. We came back to the room and John refused to sleep. We had lunch in the hotel restaurant and then John ended up going to the ball pit. He was much more stable on his feet by this time. At the hospital, he had had a hard time walking without falling. I tried to keep him calm and quiet, but he's not an easy kid to keep down. So, by the end of the day he had played in the ball pit and gone shopping at the mall and went swimming. John had lots of fun at Children's Museum, but not as much as the first time he visited. He liked playing on the musical playground outside and also visited the sugar train and bought a couple of treats. He loved spending his birthday money at Toys R Us. He picked out a super construction set, toy tools, a book about planets, a big rubber shark (which he brought with him in the OR at the hospital) a bunch of bouncy balls and a set of model planets (from the mall). Mommy and daddy bought John a new snowsuit and boots. Once again, mommy and daddy bought NOTHING for themselves! Sept. 14/06 This has been John's first week of everyday JK. He's enjoying it so far. I've peeked in on him a few times and he looks so cute sitting at the work table doing his lines etc. Ms. Fenton says he's being very well-behaved and he's coming home singing some new songs. Today we had mass in the gym and he kept looking back at me and waving. I also saw him in the computer lab and that was pretty cute too. He seems to be allergic to omething lately. I've detected some hives on his arm, however, can't seem to figure out the source. The countdown is on to the dental surgery. I'm dreading it and just want it to be over with already. We have to be at Children's Hospital at 7:45 a.m. on Friday and the nurse at Dr. Dobb's office said he'll have to stay a minimum of two hours after he wakes up from the procedure. We've then promised to take him to Toys R Us to spend some birthday cash and then to children's museum. I hope the Holiday Inn West has a nice pool! We're using Air Mile Points to save some cash. The weather has been unbelievably hot and John won't let me change him mid-day into shorts. He's so stubborn. So when I pick him up he is a very sweaty kid! Sept. 8/06 Today was John's first 1/2 day of JK. He had a very good day overall. He was a little bit nervous this morning and told me he had a sore tummy. He was seen bossing other kids around the school *like mom*. Ms. Fenton took them on a tour of the school. When John came to my room, my class was with the grade fours for reading buddies. Later John informed me that I had too many kids in my class! He said, "They don't even have a place to sit mom." John didn't like the tuna sandwiches this week at Best Start. He informed me tuna was for cats. © 2006 Derek Kennedy
