January - February 2007
Read MoreFebruary 18, 2007 John is skating! He finally expressed some interest in skating .. “I’m going to learn how to skate now mommy.” He tried out some bob-skates that strap onto your boots on Valentine’s day, but was frustrated because he wants to go “fast”. So on Saturday, we went to Canadian Tire and fitted him with hockey skates and a helmet. He had to go directly to the rink. We have a skating rink at the back of the school, so it’s very convenient for him to go. I thought he would be scared, but he just takes it in his stride. He believes he already knows how to skate anyhow and told me today that I couldn’t be on the ice because I wasn’t wearing skates. He skated for 30 minutes the first day and over an hour today. Apparently, we are going to go skating “every weekend”. He remembers the most bizarre things. Yesterday he said that on January 2, we went to the dump. He’s right. He then added it was a Tuesday. He had a sleepover at Grandma’s last night. Mommy and daddy went to the Lodge for dinner (very nice). John now says he’s going to marry Kolby from JK. He and she have the same bouncy ball. This is his criteria for a great wife :) February 13, 2007 Tonight John saw his first symphony orchestra. He was truly pumped for the event. We were sort of worried that he might fuss and make noise, but he was a very well behaved boy. Lots of the people at the concert commented on how still and quiet he was. John ate three pieces of chocolate cake at the “snack” break and then proceeded to fall asleep during the second half. The woman from the symphony who played the harpsichord was truly amazed at how interested and informed John was about the orchestra. She offered to introduce him to the bassoonist, however, John was way too tired to take advantage of this generous offer. Maybe next time! It was truly a joy to watch his eyes light up as he saw all of his favourite instruments up close! A good time was had by all! February 4, 2007 Not too much to report here. It’s bitterly cold tonight with like -38 degree temperatures. It’s hard to get motivated to do much more than sit under a blanket and try to keep warm. Yesterday, we played at toy library with Brooke and Joshua and then visited the Nerino’s. John loves to play over there and enjoys their big golden retriever, Abby. Mrs. Nerino leant John the fourth Harry Potter movie, so he watched that like 3 times during the weekend. Today we played at Grandma’s for a while and John got frustrated because his domino tower kept breaking. Happy birthday Auntie Judy! I know you read this site lots, so it’s an effective way to communicate with you. Hi Brad and Cathy! Hope you’re hanging in with the cold temperatures in southern Ontario. January 24/07 Well, it’s cold season, that’s for sure. All the kids at school are hacking, including John. He went to sleep fine tonight, however, I bet he’ll be up through the night. I’m hacking too! Went to Joshua’s birthday party last weekend. John had fun sliding, but gets frustrated when he doesn’t go as fast as he wants to. He’s started reading bedtime stories to me now (and daddy too, once in a while). He’s doing really well with the reading, but is shy to read for other people. January 10, 2007 John did it! He stuck his tongue to the flagpole at school today and took the layer of skin off of the tip of it. He said he thought about it all day and tried it at outside time. It was really cold out, so it stuck very well. He was quite brave until he saw me and then he broke down and I called Grandma to come and get him. He was very very worked up and slept on her lap for an hour. Of course, it hurts to eat anything, but he managed some cheese and a bit of pudding for supper. Poor little man! His ski pants went missing from Best Start and I’ve spent the last two days trying to locate them. Mystery! January 3, 2007 Happy New Year to everyone. Our holidays are almost over and it’s back to school next week. John is really missing the activity of school and his friends too. He’s been enjoying going sliding and to toy library and playing with Brooke and Joshua. We’ve been doing a lot of swimming at Best Western pool and he can really jump and keep his head under water a long time now. Today I bought him goggles, but they don’t really fit him properly. He’s pleased with them anyhow. He’s been very argumentative all week and we’re trying to nip that. He’s been in time out a fair bit! He’s taken to watching the Harry Potter films now. He’s enjoying his Christmas presents and likes to play “Mr. Beethoven” on his piano. Grandma Memory and Grandpa Ed sent John a flag from Alberta. He slept with it last night and then cried in the middle of the night because it was wrinkled. He’s very into flags! Top © 2007 Derek Kennedy
