January - March
Read MoreMarch 31, 2010 Well, Easter is almost upon us! The weather has been super mild this winter. We really enjoyed March Break because the snow melted and we were able to get outside and enjoy the parks and friends again. We bought John a scooter on sale at Walmart and Derek put it together for him over the break. He doesn’t want to ride a two-wheeler, but likes the new scooter. It has the wider tires so that it is better on the gravel roads etc. Grandma Lorraine and Papa Wil got John a baseball glove for First Communion (Apr. 17) and a baseball bat for Easter, so we were playing that in the park quite a bit. I’m terrified that John will nail me with the ball though because he has a really powerful bat! He’s signed up for soccer and baseball this year so we should be busy once May hits. Right now, John is in swimming lessons – Level 2. He enjoys going, so that’s a good thing. He did very well on his report card and didn’t get any C’s this time. He got all A’s and B’s and group work seems to be his area to grow. He doesn’t want to consider others’ opinions…well he comes by that honestly. I always hate group projects as well! I want to do a project like I want to do it! We’re starting to plan our summer holiday a bit now too. We’re really looking forward to our second big family adventure to the East Coast this time. We can’t really afford to go, but at the same point, we can’t really afford not to go. If you always wait to go, you’ll never go! Hopefully, my Aunt Judy will stay in our house while we’re away and look after things and cats! Maybe they won’t be so lonely this time! I’ve been busy crocheting baby blankets for teachers on staff who are expecting. It doesn’t seem like very long ago that our baby was being born too. He’s so tall now and growing like a weed every day. He’s one of the tallest kids in his class. I’m hosting Easter Brunch again this year. We were going to eat out at Best Western, but they wanted 25 dollars each for brunch and we think that’s ridiculous. So…..John and I will decorate some eggs and I’ll make a simple egg dish, fruit tray and buy some sweet treats. It certainly won’t cost me that much!!! Grandma Jane bought John a suit for his first communion. It’s black with a vest and a flowered tie. John hates the tie, so we’re going to have to go shopping for a better one. He looks so handsome in it. It will be the very first time he’s dressed up like that. He’s sort of nervous about the day, but I’m certain he’ll do fine. January 3, 2010 Happy New Year! The Christmas holidays absolutely sped by this year! I don’t like having the whole week off before Christmas because basically I spend all my time getting ready for Christmas. It’s nicer to have the week off afterwards so you can just chill out! Speaking of chilling..it’s freezing out tonight! The beginning of the holidays had mild weather and John really enjoyed skating outside at Milestone Rink. He even played a little ice hockey and enjoyed that as well. The hockey theme carried throughout his Christmas presents this year. Uncle Wade built him an NHL hockey table which thrilled John. It took Wade 10 hours to build it - better him than us! Santa brought John street hockey goalie equipment. Daddy spoiled us both with identical digital p&s cameras. John really likes to take pictures and took some pictures of his friends when they were over to play. Mommy still has to figure out how to use the camera :) Daddy wanted a new camera too, but unfortunately, the camera that Daddy wants cost two thousand dollars! He got a gift certificate to the camera corner instead, as well as tickets to see “Vinyl Café” in March. The holidays were quiet, but nice. I cooked Christmas dinner and everyone seemed to have a good time in spite of our small squishy house. John has also discovered the waterslide at the Dryden Pool. He really enjoys it. We did toonie swim a couple of times as well as his adventure there with Adam and his family. John had a few playdates over Christmas and generally was really well-behaved. He’s sure growing up! It’s sad to see our little boy grow up in some ways. I’m going to miss the snuggles! John really enjoyed the Christmas baking this year and really did some nice gingerbread men. He spent lots of time decorating them. When we did the sugar cookies, John was sort of tired of the decorating process, however, mom and I enjoyed it. John’s concert this year was a Christmas around the world sort of thingy. They sang some nice songs from different cultures. No acting up to report this year and he didn’t knock anything over! My Christmas concerts were a good success as well…I did the Grinch with two classes, plus my kindergarten. It’s hard to believe we have to go to school tomorrow. I’m getting used to sleepin in again. 6:45 is going to seem mighty early! Tomorrow we’re going as a school to see the Olympic Torch pass by. Hopefully it will be on time, because it’s near the end of the school day. It’s cold outside, so I’d better find my ski pants! I’m going with the Grade 1’s and 7’s I think.
