Site Updates
May 10th and 11th, 2007 Smugmug, the company that hosts my site, will be performing some work on their servers requiring all sites hosted by them to be down. From their message to me: "...We will be upgrading database & shuffling network components during the 5/10/07 maintenance window (Thursday 10:00pm to Friday 03:00am PDT). There will be a period in which the entire SmugMug site will be unavailable. Specifically, we will be transitioning some of our database infrastructure to newer, faster disk arrays, as well as shuffling some of our core network switches to better utilize our hardware. While we hope this won't take the entire window, please plan on a complete outage for the full five hours. If things go quicker than planned, we'll gladly end it as early as possible..." Apr 23/07 I added a Infra Red information page due to the amount of e-mails I get on that subject. You can find it HERE Apr 14/07 I finally got around to changing the background of the comments section to be easier to read (due to a comment left by someone!), but I notice the fix caused a problem with FireFox. A few of the comments boxes now do not have a bottom border. This problem, however, does not seem to appear when viewing the same page with IE(6 or 7). APRIL 14 UPDATE: Now it seems just the corners of the comment boxes are missing in FF 2, otherwise things look good. An odd thing though - on the laptop and the PC I run FireFox 2.0.0.3 and on the PC this issue doesn't appear but it does on the laptop. So - I have no idea :) Jan 31/07 I can't find a fix for the slideshow but I'm leaving as for now. I also noticed today that the new 'page picker' on top of the galleries are creating issues with IE6 and IE7 when you try to use the Photo Galleries drop down menu. I'm trying to find a cure for that problem right now. EDIT: a fix to the above issues has being found. Also for some reason, all my galleries are loading with small photos instead of medium photos (to the right of the thumbnails) when using IE7 - I am also tried to find a cure for that. EDIT: I'm such a moron. If the browser is not open wide the page automatically loads the photos smaller when you view a gallery. Opening up the browser fixed the issue :) Jan 24/07 I'm messing a little bit with the slideshow that you see on the home page. It works awesome with FireFox, but doesn't fade in and out properly with IE6 (not sure about IE7 at the moment). I might have to change to code to a newer piece of code. I had set it up to just load one photo every time you went to the home page but I might work on it a bit to see if I can get it to work properly with IE. If you use IE, you really should switch to FireFox! Jan 22/07 Smugmug, the company that hosts my site, has made some changes to the way Smugmug hosted web pages work. The changes so far only affect a certain style - and of course that is the style I use. *I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THESE UPDATES* Smugmug is a photo sharing site that uses 'templates' for users to use without needing to know any HTML or CSS codes. Basically all we have to do is create galleries and upload photos. And YOU thought I was a coding genius!Of course I have heavily modified the templates to what you see now. With the changes made January 22nd, 2007 - there will be some 'bugs' to my site that I have to find and fix. Some of the changes is a small fly out window appears on the main photo. Another change causes the photos to load faster (a good thing!). And yes, some changes creates problems such as with one of my stat counters. Occasionally you might find a issue that might be a bug that needs fixing - if so: please leave a comment at the bottom of this page and I will do my best to find a fix for that problem. Dec. 29/06 I added the Diary entry for Oct - Dec 2004 entries to the 2004 Diary. Somehow, that entry was not transfered over to this site when I shut down the old site. Dec. 28/06 Changed the banner to a slimmer banner to allow more of the galleries to show up on the page hoping to reduce the amount of scrolling one may have to do with a larger banner. Dec. 19/06 I made some changes to the navigation bar. I placed all photo galleries under one menu item (Photo Galleries). This does two things: it shortens the nav bar, and centralizes all the galleries in one place. In doing so, I also moved 'Recent Photos' under the Photo Galleries menu button. I also added the 'Site Updates' menu item. This will give me a place to place updates without having to put them into the Diary area. Dec. 13/06 I added a Guestbook to the navbar and also the ability for you to add comments to 'Artistic' and 'Photoshopped' galleries (found in the Photo Galleries > Scenics menu area). So please - feel free to leave us a comment or two. To combat spam, you will be required to enter a 4 character code in order to save your comments. If it looks like a capital 'I' then it probably is a number '1'. I have no control over the spam control. You are also able to leave a rating of 1 to 5 stars, or you may choose to not leave a rating. Dec. 9/06 I've added a new feature to make things a little easier for you. I added a 'Recent Photos' button on the nav bar (in red). This gallery is a virtual gallery created on the fly when someone hits that button. The gallery created will show any photos posted in the last seven days only. Unfortunately, the gallery will show the newest photos last in the thumbnail gallery - there isn't anything I can do about that at this time. Below the larger image, there is a 'See photo in gallery' link that when pressed will take you to the gallery that the larger image is from. The 'Recent Photos' gallery will make it easier for you to see what has been posted to all galleries without the need to visit each and every gallery looking for new photos. Again: only photos posted in the past 7 days will show up. If you want to increase the number of days searched, or to search for photos posted in a certain time period, click on the word 'date' next to 'The Kennedy Family' above the thumbnail gallery. This will take you to a 'browse dates' window for you to enter the dates you want to search for. When you've entered the dates, hit the 'Browse' button to create the gallery. You can also click on the month (in white) in the upper right corner above the larger image. This will give you a breakdown as to each day, and the number of photos submitted that day. You can click on the date (in white). A reminder on the search dates function - it only searches for photos *posted* to the server, not when the photos where actually taken. ALL photos up to this point where posted this year as I started this new site and transfered all photos here. I hope you make use of, and enjoy, this feature. At any time, for any reason you want to send us a e-mail you can do so by clicking on my name at the bottom of the page. The new nav bar was created due to compatibility issues with the old one, and IE7. This nav bar is compatible with Firefox, IE6/7, but I'm not sure if there are issues with other browsers.
